I ventured out with Team CRP to New Castle Indiana for the first club race of the season, may I say the weather was terrible. Saturday & Sunday were both cold and very windy, but it wouldn’t be New Castle if it wasn’t windy!
Saturday, we decided to move me to the CIK Sr Lite class to race against some great kids that are 14 plus in age. Saturday, I showed some great speed, practiced with the front runners all day and was able to keep up with them. So overall practice turned out to be good and we learned a lot.
Now Sunday comes around and its probably about 30 degrees outside and the rubber probably washed away from the rain on Saturday evening, so not a great day to start out.
Qualifying comes up and me and my teammate were not being smart and stayed with about 5 other karts, well I leaded the train of karts (dumb decision on my part) and that didn’t help my qualifying session at all but helped the ones behind me that qualified 2nd-5th. I qualified 8th and my teammate Addy qualified 9th.
We had to wait a good 4-5 hours till race time, since our group is the last group of the day. I lined up 8th and going into turn 1 was a mess, 2 of the karts in the front got together and took most of our row into the grass. So of course, I fell back to 12th on the start. I was able to work with another competitor and we pushed to get ourselves through 4 or 5 karts, which is all we could do with the 3 kart drafts way ahead of us. I was able to finish out the race in 8th. A 3-kart draft vs the 2-kart draft was about .6 tenths of a difference, which you were not going to catch that being 9 seconds behind them.
Overall, I am proud of how well I did. I know I have it in me to compete for a win, I must be patient and mature in my racing a little bit to get there. Being 12 years old and having barely any body weight, probably isn’t helping much, but I will keep trying and never give up on myself.
Thank you to Team CRP (my dad) for always being there to work on my kart and helping me improve, even when I don’t listen to you. Thank you to Comet Engines for always making sure I have the best engines so that I can compete. Big thanks to all my sponsors CRP Racing, Rocks Trailer Sales, PKT, Ogio, Motul, Action Sports Canopies, and Slick Products.
Next up I will run my first KA100 Jr Route 66 race at New Castle where the weather is looking cold and possible snow. Not too sure how that will work, but I will give it a try.
